Wells Helen Stevenson and Susan Beale, 14 octobre 2017 16:30-14 octobre 2017 17:30, Bishop’s Palace, Wells Wells Festival of Literature .
In conversation with Emma Craigie
Mark Twain’s exhortation ‘Write what you know’ is useful advice and it’s fascinating to witness how ‘knowledge’ is used. Susan Beale’s The Good Guy was shortlisted for the Costa First Novel award. She used her own backstory to create a compelling fiction set in 1960s New England. Helen Stevenson draws on her family’s time in France, and her personal experience of bringing up a child with cystic fibrosis, as the inspiration for her factual memoir Love Like Salt. Both writers live in Somerset and will discuss their contrasting use of memoir and memory with Emma Craigie, writer, teacher and former Wells Festival of Literature chair.
