Sweeney Todd: Christchurch Season, 12 octobre 2016 19:30, Isaac Theatre Royal
Bringing this musical thriller to life, we are delighted to welcome back to our shores one of New Zealand’s most beloved operatic sons, Teddy Tahu Rhodes.
The haunted intensity of Teddy’s Sweeney meets its match in Antoinette Halloran’s seductively manipulative and very funny murderess, Mrs Lovett.
A co-production with Victorian Opera, Sweeney Todd is directed by NZ Opera’s General Director, Stuart Maunder, and the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra is conducted by Benjamin Northey. The sets and costumes are designed by Tony Award winner Roger Kirk.
Reviews have hailed this production as “magnificent”, “revelatory” and a “superb union of technical, musical and artistic balance”.
With just five performances in Christchurch, opera and theatre fans alike are urged to book quickly for the production the Times Age reviewed as delivering “incisive theatricality and potent musicality.”
