« Female fronted rock ‘n roll for fans of Alabama Shakes »
They’ve already opened for Charles Bradley many times, they often get named in the same breath as Alabama Shakes, and they were actually able to record debut ‘Get Gone’ for the famous Fat Possum label (see: Black Keys, Fat White Family, Youth Lagoon,…). So the musical contours of the band Seratones – hailing from Shreveport, Louisiana – are now clear: smoking rock ’n roll that radiates the vibe of the steaming juke joints of old days.
Star of the show is charismatic frontwoman (with afro) A.J. Hanes who already made a name for herself at the age of 6 in gospel choirs in her hometown. So her voice is then often compared to that of both Janis Joplin and Mavis Staples.
Of their visit to SXSW, NME wrote: ‘It’s probably the best off-the-cuff performance ever seen at SXSW.’
