The conference will be dedicated to the examination of the evolving legal framework for the protection of cultural heritage in general and of the Council of Europe ‘Convention on Offences relating to Cultural Property’ in particular. Adopted in May 2017, this convention aims to prevent and combat the illicit trafficking and destruction of cultural property, in the framework of the action of the Council of Europe to fight terrorism and organised crime. The Convention, which is open for signature to any State in the world, also aims to foster international cooperation to fight these crimes.
