Bringing in the Sheaves: Wheat and Chaff from My Years as a Priest

The UK’s only vicar to have had a number one hit single, the Rev’d Richard Coles has also inspired characters such as BBC’s Rev and Tom in Bridget Jones’s Diary. One half of the 80s pop duo the Communards (with Jimmy Somerville) with all its attendant stardom and notoriety, Coles might be considered an unlikely priest. But, using the church’s calendar – from Petertide, on to Advent and then through to Easter – as his guide, Coles explains his personal journey, starting with his ordination in 2005. How can one be the servant of two masters? And how does the life of a parish priest dovetail with that of the broadcaster on BBC Radio 4’s Saturday Live?
