Poirier [Ninja Tune, Mixpak / Montreal], 14 octobre 2016 22:00, Bloom Nightclub
Poirier has been a prominent envelope pusher in Canada’s tropical/bass scene for over 15 years – working with folks like Warrior Queen, Crookers, Machinedrum and MC ZULU, remixing artists like Bassnectar, Popcaan, Busy Signal, Stylo G, Sam Binga, an-ten-nae, and even Buck 65, while being remixed by artists like MODESELEKTOR (OFFICIAL SITE), TODDLA T, and Mungo’s Hi Fi – all without batting an eye. His recent « Migration » LP on NICE UP! records is currently making waves, an EP before that being released on Mixpak – the crew known to have swept the competition under the rug at this year’s Red Bull Music Academy Culture Clash, taking home the glory over Wiley’s Eskimo Dance crew.
Let’s give Poirier a warm welcome back to the Kootenays on Friday October 14 as he makes his first appearance in the area since Shambhala 2009 – DJ Dubconscious + Selectah Meszenjah are on the warm-up with some culture riddims, and our PK Sound will have the room sounding real nice. $10 earlybird tickets available at The Falls Music Lounge by Friday September 30.
•• Poirier ••
Global music specialist Poirier was born and raised in Montreal, Canada. Releasing music for Ninja Tune, Mixpak, NICE UP! records, and Man Recordings – over the past fifteen years he has recorded eight albums as Poirier and two as « Boundary. »
From tropical riddims to urban electro, the DJ/producer is well-versed into reggae/dancehall, afro-pop, soca and electronic/bass music to just name a few genres of his large palette. His new album « Migration » came out on UK label Nice Up! Records in 2016 and features collaborations with Machinedrum, MC ZULU, Red Fox, and Face-T – to just name a few..
•• DJ Dubconscious ••
Dubconscious has come to represent both the east & the western coast of Canada. Born and raised in the Toronto area, he attended University in Victoria before spending 2 years in Nelson BC, snowboarding in the winters & working with the talent department at Shambhala Music Festival – a role that has developed over the years to a position as talent buyer for their new venue, Bloom Nightclub. He’s also become a resident of the Living Room (Beach) Stage over the past seven years, also performing on the Village Stage five of those years.
After a 4 year stint living in East Vancouver, this seasoned selector has returned to the Kootenays with a plethora of fresh flavors to pop off in the dance – monumental basslines meet a roots reggae infusion, reggae and dancehall intermingle, funky bashment vibes and bass-infused house face off, classic hip hop and trip hop, drum’n’bass and jungle, spacey halftime beats and thick dubwise riddims – all with a dash of turntablism.
•• Selectah Meszenjah ••
Selectah Meszenjah represents Full Spectrum Sound, while showing respect to all crews, cliques and selectahs that came before him. Give thanks for the vibes!
