Jill Barber in Concert, 9 novembre 2016 18:00, Southminster United Church
The Ottawa Jazz Festival is switching gears this year. Its annual Live Auction and Benefit Concert will take place on Thursday, March 2, 2017 with a Swing into Spring Event.
Still we couldn’t go without presenting a special fall event showcasing Jill Barber in Concert to Benefit the Ottawa Jazz Festival. There will be Mystery packages for purchase containing fun and unique items to enjoy around town.
Besides her distinctive voice, reminiscent of the classic songstress, Jill Barber’s talent for writing striking songs has made her one of Canada’s most recognizable artists. The two-time JUNO nominee known for writing songs that evoke romantic feelings of a bygone era will perform some of her best loved songs.
Her albums have sold over 100,000 copies and her album Mischievous Moon spent 13 straight weeks at #1 on the Canadian Jazz Charts and debuted at #12 on the US Billboard Jazz charts. Her song Chances was also featured on the soundtrack for the hit series Orange is the New Black.
Hailed by Kris Kristofferson as a “real songwriter, a damn good songwriter,” in her 6th studio album, Fool’s Gold, Jill explores different musical styles, from traditional country, to jazz and Motown.
“I can’t help but feel nostalgic for other eras of music. When I listen to Etta James, or Ray Charles or Carole King, I feel almost intoxicated. It stirs something in me. When I write my own music, my greatest hope is that it ends up becoming the perfect soundtrack to some great romance, or at the very least a great cocktail party,” explains Jill.
Tickets are $40 (taxes included), available online, by phone at 613-241-2633 or during office hours at (602-294 Albert St.). Cash bar available
